Mid Century Homes for Sale in Orlando

You may have heard that mid-century modern is back in a huge way! From dining room tables, to sofas and chairs people have recently rediscovered the awesomeness of this 60’s design. If you are one of the many with mid-century envy, you are in luck!

Are there many Mid Century Homes for Sale in Orlando?

Although Orlando isn’t considered the type of market where you’ll find tons of mid century homes for sale, we actually have more than you think, all  scattered around the Orlando area. From Sanford to College Park, mid century homes are available – if you know what you are looking for!

So what are you looking for!?

Mid century homes became popular after World War 2, when new materials such as steel became available and architects from all over the world began a grand experiment. Instead of boxed houses with small rooms, architects such as Ludwug Mies Van Der Rohe and the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright began designing homes with open floor plans, huge windows and often flat roofs. Mixing materials, such as wood, concrete and steel was also popular.

The architects’ goal was to create a connection with nature by taking down the walls and opening the space to the outdoors. With all of those features it’s no surprise that more people are starting to find these homes appealing again!

Architects, Gene Leedy, design team Sorensen & Fletcher, and Frank Lloyd Wright’s apprentice Nils Schweizer (as well as many more!) all helped bring mid-century modern design to central Florida in the 1960’s. Many of these home designs can be seen here.

Best Orlando Neighborhoods to find Mid Century Homes for Sale

Due to the appeal of these homes, and the relative scarcity in the Orlando area, mid century homes for sale in Orlando are generally priced at a pretty penny. But there are bargains to be found if you are willing to look for mid-century homes through a variety of zip codes. Don’t lose hope! Winter Park, Sanford, College Park and Downtown Orlando all frequently have this style of home for sale. Other areas with some amazing mid century gems are Audubon Park and Wadeview Park.
